February Home Maintenance in northern New Jersey

February is interior tune-up season: the month for the inside jobs that get skipped when the weather is nice, from descaling the dishwasher to tightening every handle and hinge in the house.

It is also prime time for under-sink inspections, because a slow drip found in February is a stain that never reaches the March ceiling.

On the February checklist

• Descale dishwasher and clean out drain filter
• Inspect humidifier water panel. Descale or replace as needed.
• Inspect faucet aerators. Clean/replace as needed.
• Test and tighten all knobs, handles and hinges throughout the house
• Inspect under all sinks for evidence of water issues/damage
• Monitor softener salt and furnace filter. Fill/replace as needed.
• Visual inspection of home exterior addressing vent/air intake obstructions
